Hello everyone. This is a short blog, but I just wanted to get some thoughts out about this series.
So, I needed a break from reading 'Rhythm of War' and decided to try out 'Dragonriders of Pern' ... and O-boy.
A few initial thoughts:
1) Why have I waited this long to read these? So far, 'Dragonflight' is amazing.
2) Holy dang, I didn't realize it was a Tolkien/Cosmerian sized body of literature. (Storms! What have I done!)
3) It is interesting to see how much Anne McCaffrey's style is visible in Brandon Sanderson's work. (I believe that in one of his interviews or classes he credits McCaffrey books as some of his inspiration.)
3.a.) Lessa feels like Shallan, but a lot less annoying. (Sorry if you are a Shallan fan).
4) Now having read most of the 'Earthsea' books and a good chunk of 'Dragonflight' it is interesting to see how Paolini mashed the two together for his books as well. I, like many people my age, was on the hype train of the Eragon series so it's cool to see the genesis of the ideas he had.
I'm excited to see where the story goes. I'm loving McCaffrey's voice. I'm a sucker for old-sounding English. (Chef's kiss)
